- That would be quite a feature --- having 1024 lines at 30us each
- (approximately), and that in just 14ms time..... And yes, once we can
- display a 1280*1024 screen at 80Hz (we want to make sure even sensitive
- people won't get headaches, right), we go for 24 bit colour. We then
- go for larger virtual screens. We then might go for hardware zooming
- (I think that could be the next big thing --- zooming in and out of you
- desktop), hardware accellerated 3d with decent texture mapping and
- 32 bit resolution for the Z-buffer, real time video playback with smoothing
- of lower resolution strips (also very useful for the zooming), and so
- on and so on and so on. I have been in this field for far too long to
- believe any "we have reached a limit" predictions anymore. Well, maybe
- for sound, but definitely not for video.

- And once we actually have all that on a card, the LCD technology will;
- be available at a very decent price, and we can suddenly have screens
- that are ten times as big as the ones we are using now, while maybe giving
- 300 dpi for the display --- which would mean we have to get the resolution
- up to 12800*10240 (or, most likely, something in the 16:9 format). Which
- means the thing becomes a home cinema --- which means that the card has
- to handle extremely compressed video-on-demand, introducing a whole new
- set of functionality...
